Solar Plexus Laya Yoga Meditation

Laya Yoga is a shaivic system of practicing Yoga based on focusing the mind in specific ways on the chakras, and inducing Kundalini energy to arise.

Laya is a noun meaning “dissolution” or “absorption”. The practice of Laya is described as deep concentration, causing the absorption of the cosmic principles, stage by stage, into the spiritual aspect of the Supreme-Power-Consciousness. This frees consciousness from all that is not spiritual, and in which is held the divine luminous coiled power, termed kundalini. Laya-yogins seek to meditatively dissolve themselves by clinging solely to the transcendental self. They endeavor to transcend all memory traces and sensory experiences by dissolving the mind into the transcendental Being-Consciousness-Bliss.

Laya refers to the melting of all the impressions which have accumulated throughout one’s lifetime/s, thereby liberating one’s mind from all obstacles and limitations and freeing one from the holds of karma. This supposedly also causes the seeds of habitual inclinations (i.e. samskaras) to be dissolved and turned into primal energy. Laya Yoga is usually called the yoga of absorption, or absorbing the lower nature by the higher spiritual forces.
